Damp Proofing Services

We provide a full range of Damp Proofing services to both domestic and commercial customers throughout Newcastle Upon Tyne treating rising damp, penetrating damp, condensation, woodworm and dry rot.

Our clients include residential homeowners, landlords, mortgage brokers, estate agents and property management companies. We also act as private consultants for local builders and property developers

Rising Damp

Rising damp is caused when surrounding clays and soils are absorbed into the masonry components of a building’s structure by capillary action, which is the technical term to describe the movement of moisture from the ground into the walls, and the movement of moisture to a sponge soaking up water.

The level to which the damp will rise is determined by the effectiveness of any original damp proof course, the volume of the water supply, evaporative conditions over the wall surface, and humidity.

The term rising damp is generally used when dampness appears above the floor or skirting board level of the property, causing damage to brick work, mortar joints, plaster and paintwork or wall coverings. This can, in most cases, be attributed to the lack of, or failure of the building’s damp proof course.

Wood Worm

It is extremely important that you react to woodworm infestations as quickly as possible. Active attacks can become worse and affect structural integrity quickly, especially if left.

Our treatments are water based with no toxic propellants which is far more environmentally friendly than other treatments often used by our competition. They have a re-entry time of only one hour following treatment -some contractors use chemicals which require you to stay out of your property for 48 hours!

Dry Rot

Dry Rot is often described as the cancer of buildings and can arise from many sources the most common being damaged roof, defective gutters, washing machine leaks.

Dry rot loves hidden unventilated areas such as roofs, sub floors, behind skirting boards, under stairs cupboards and staircases.

Dry Rot does not isolate itself to just timbers it can spread through plaster and masonry and can have a serious affect on the buildings structure if left untreated or treated incorrectly

Dry rot treatment can be very complex and should only be undertaken by experienced companies. Many builders and property development companies employ our specialist services to treat dry rot as we have many years of experience in this area.

It is crucial to identify the source of moisture and carry out the necessary internal or external repairs. Once this is done, we will treat the affected area by removing all affected timbers and plaster. Many companies fail to remove affected plaster, treat sub floor or make improvements to ventilation therefore putting your property at risk for a future outbreak to return.

It may also be necessary to carry out an inspection of your neighbour’s property as their property could be at risk and may also be the cause.
